Friday Favorite

I have to get into a rhythm and start posting my non-Friday Favorite posts BEFORE it’s actually Friday! There’s always next week…

Today’s favorite is something that Noah and I have become pretty excited about. Coconut Oil. Yep, that’s it. It has become our new cooking oil for everything, conditioner for the hair and moisturizer for the skin. It’s incredible all the jobs it can do AND it’s super healthy (not to mention tastes yummy)!

Allow me to seduce you with the benefits:.

I have a book called The Green Beauty Guide (don’t make fun of me…it’s actually really insightful!) and after reading the section about what can actually be in our skin/hair care and the health consequences that can come about because of what we put on our skin/hair, I am definitely more cautious when picking out our products. It’s exciting to learn how to look at what the ingredient list says (and more importantly understand) instead of smelling the product, buy the cheapest or decide by what celebrity promotes which product….I can say that because sadly, I have done this. What? Sarah Jessica Parker’s hair looks amazingly fake and I want it.

It’s been proven that our beauty products carry toxic ingredients which may lead to many other serious diseases, including allergies, fertility problems, diabetes, and Alzheimer’s disease. Why take the chance? There are so many ways to buy cheap coconut oil in bulk online or even make your own! Here is one that I have tried and really enjoy…when I’m not using coconut oil that is.

.:Be Cool Hair Milk:.
1/2 cup witch hazel
1/3 ounce vodka, cognac, or brandy (then drink the rest!)
3 drops peppermint essential oil

There is so much out there as well as many ways to be healthy on a budget! It can all be very overwhelming so I encourage you to go into your bathroom and make a list of the ingredients in your products that you use daily. Research what each ingredient actually is and let the facts lead you to decide what works best for you and your lifestyle. You will feel very empowered by just knowing a little more about what you put into your body every day.

Start there and in the meantime, go buy a jar of coconut oil.
